Clubs

A vibrant student culture rooted in faith.

Our student culture plays a key role in the experience at St. Joseph School.

We’ve created a safe and accessible environment where students are encouraged to discuss ideas, collaborate on projects, share their work, and receive feedback with pride. We give students the foundation to reach their potential and gain confidence both academically and socially.

Student Council

SJS Voices

Grades 6-8

St. Joseph's student council is an organized, elected group of students in grades 6-8 that meets on a regular basis. They work hard to effectively communicate, plan, and carry out a variety of school activities that support a positive, Christ centered environment in the school and community. Members lead others to be closer to God by being accountable, respectful, and engaged Cavaliers.

Grades 6-8

SJS Voices leads the music at school masses. Students in grades 6-8 are encouraged to join. We meet after school on designated days to rehearse the music for each all school mass. Choir members enjoy fellowship and fun as they strengthen their faith as well as their musicality.

Art Club

Grades 6-8

Art club is open to students in grades 6-8 and meets every other week. This year we have offered two different sections of art club due to an overwhelming amount of students interested. Art club's goal is to grow students' artistic abilities and prepare students for future artistic endeavors, including applying to Governor's School for the Arts in high school. Students in the art club are encouraged to keep a sketchbook and push themselves in various projects in order to grow their art portfolios.

Curtain Call Cavaliers

MathCounts

Grades 6-8

Curtain Call Cavaliers is a group that creates a yearly wonderful theater experience to educate, challenge, and inspire our students. We teach them the arts of auditioning, acting, singing, dancing, and working together with an end goal of developing their self confidence, public speaking skills, and sense of community, along with creating a fantastic play for them to share with our community!

Grades 6-8

The MathCounts Competition Series was created in 1983 to address the gap in U.S. mathematics placement versus other industrialized nations.  It is sponsored by engineers and major corporations, has an army of dedicated volunteers, and is present across all fifty states for grades 6-8.   It’s a club focused on creative and unique problem solving that ideally builds a life-long passion for mathematics specifically and the STEM fields broadly.  SJS can boast a first place regional individual earning the student a full college scholarship to UK as an 8th grader as well as a second place regional team finish resulting in a trip to WKU for State competition.

Sports Card Club

Grades K-8

SJS offers a sports card club to expand and facilitate a love of sports cards through trading and other fun activities. Trading cards creates confidence in negotiating, assessing value and making sound decisions. We have five meetings throughout the school year to learn about topics like understanding value in a card, taking care of cards, trading, grading, and overall understanding of the sports card industry. Our meetings include trading sessions between members, sending a card from the members collection to get graded and each member participating in a box break. Each child will receive a t-shirt from our sponsor, Hit Seekers. All students are welcomed and must be accompanied by an adult at each meeting.

Academic Team

Grades 3-8

The SJS Academic Team provides SJS students the opportunity to compete against other Kentucky schools in a fun and challenging environment. Students will participate in quick recall competitions where they try to out-buzz their competitors to answer questions in various subjects, such as Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Arts & Humanities. It’s Jeopardy! for kids! Students in the 3rd-5th grades will compete at the Elementary level against local schools in Northern Kentucky. Students in the 6th-8thgrades will compete at the Middle School level against schools all over the state of Kentucky. The diligent and dedicated students of SJS have turned the Academic Team into one of the top programs in Kentucky (SJS has advanced to the State Governor’s Cup competition for the last 9 years and has placed as high as 3rd Overall), and we are always looking for new members.

STEAM Club

Grades 3-5

FIRST® Robotics
Project-based, hands-on FIRST® programs introduce students to engineering and coding in an engaging, inclusive, and creative after-school or in-class learning environment where students work collaboratively to solve an annual robotics challenge centered around a yearly theme. Boosted by a million-strong global community of students, mentors, educators, volunteers, sponsors, and alumni in over 100 countries, our programs are designed to inspire innovation and help young people build a better future. Team members research challenges facing today's scientists, apply real-world math and science concepts, design, build, test, and program robots using SPARK technology and learn critical thinking, team-building, and presentation skills.

Chess Club

Grades 1-8

Join Chess Club to learn more about the game, fine tune skills and strategy, and compete against other classmates. We would love to have you in the club! In the future, we will work on scheduling matches with other schools and learn about local tournaments that the students can participate in.
